Sony Cyber-shot N1 review
I've just put up my review of the Sony Cyber-shot N1 and the Sony N1 photo gallery.
New cameras from Canon
Canon announced the much rumored Rebel XTi today along with 3 new A-series cameras. I expect this is their first round of announcements, with some Digital ELPHs to be brought in next month. The A640 sounds quite good (One for me please!).
Canon Rebel XTi aka EOS 400D
- 10.1 effective megapixels (CMOS sensor)
- Canon EF/EF-S lens mount (1.6x crop factor)
- 2.5 inch high-resolution LCD - all the info will be shown here; no more top panel
- Several anti-dust features: Ultrasonic, low-pass filter partitioning with anti-static and software removal
- ISO sensitivity from ISO 100 to ISO 1600
- Full manual controls plus scene modes
- Shoots at 3 FPS with improved buffering (27 JPEG or 10 RAW)
- 9 point AF with AI-Servo
- Takes CF Type 1 and 2 cards
- Uses a lithium-ion battery; battery grip available
- Available in September for $799 (Body only) or $899 with the same 18 - 55 mm lens as the Rebel XT
Canon also released two lenses today. They are the EF 50 mm f1.2L USM and EF 70-200 mm f4.0L IS USM which retail for $1599 and $1249 respectively.

10 new Olympus cameras
Just as you thought summer was getting to be quite boring, Olympus released no less than 10 cameras today. That includes two new Stylus cameras with 5X optical zoom; one with real image stabilization - and a camera which has a familiar looking lens (From Ricoh?). And the party's just begun - expect more new cameras in the coming weeks.

Canon PowerShot A530 review
From the months without a review department, I finally present to you my review of the Canon PowerShot A530 and the Canon A530 photo gallery. Phew! That was more than a month without a single review. Hopefully this fall will bring more cameras which will last me till PMA 2007!
Pentax updates 2 cameras
Pentax introduced updates to two cameras announced earlier this year; now with higher resolution, high sensitivity modes and face recognition. The A20 adds some manual controls and a new processor as well. The megapixel race for compact cameras doesn't end here as you will see...

Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro UVIR
Fujifilm released a camera with a very weird name today but it's not a replacement for the current S3 Pro. It can take UV and IR photos (thus the name), those you see in crime scene investigation documentaries. It'll be available for $1799.

The long awaited, much talked about Nikon D80 is finally it has arrived.

Nikon also released two lenses today, one of which will be the D80's kit lens. The first one is the 18 - 135 mm f3.5 - f5.6 and the other is 70 - 300 mm f4.5 - f5.6 VR.

2 GB xD-Picture card
Fujifilm and Olympus have each launched a 2 GB xD-Picture card, the largest yet for this format. Pricing is currently unknown but it will be available in September.
Kodak follows the suit
Kodak races along as well, releasing four new cameras today with minor updates and more megapixels.

Canon SD550, 11/2005 - 8/2006
I've good and bad news. The bad news is my SD550 was stolen last night at the airport along with my trusty 1 GB SanDisk Ultra II card. Alas I don't think I'll ever see it again so now it's time to shop for a new compact. Right now, I'm thinking Sony T30 which has a larger LCD and better battery life than the T10 below.

Sony released an ultra-thin camera today, which has a smaller LCD and weaker battery life than the T30. The T10 uses a familiar body design from the T9.
